“ANPA represents the professional interests of 4,000 plus physicians, dentists and allied health professionals of Nigerian birth, ethnicity or empathy in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean providing a platform for medical and scientific dialogue, on issues of health within North America, the Caribbean, and Africa, pertinent to persons of descent from the Nigerian Diaspora.”
The word Diaspora is in the ANPA mission quoted above. Diaspora is defined as “a large group of people with a similar heritage or homeland who have since moved out to places all over the world.”
As ANPA celebrates its 25th-anniversary social media and smartphones have transformed the world into a global village. It seems to me that the word Diaspora has become obsolete. Events that happened in any part of the world can be shared instantly on Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter or Instagram to name a few. Nigerians have a huge social media presence and is something ANPA should exploit in our pursuit for a healthier and wealthier Nigeria.
I urge members to help us share our mission and vision by visiting the website, anpa.org. We also have a Facebook page and Twitter account.
We are no longer in the Diaspora. Let’s join the global village.
