Medical Care in the U.S.

ANPA  receives formal and informal consultations regarding patients in Nigeria who would like to come to the United States for medical care.

In most instances it may be possible to complete an initial/preliminary medical evaluation in Nigeria before coming to the US. This arrangement may facilitate your care and also ascertain that you are referred to the ideal medical facility for your care in the US. ANPA may also refer you to a Nigerian Physician in the locale where you are being cared for in Nigeria to act as an informal information source.

In addition to the requirements for a non-immigrant visa application, applicants for medical treatment in the United States must provide the following items in support of their visa application:

1. A local doctor’s letter of referral which will include a detailed medical report detailing the applicant’s diagnosis and treatment plan in Nigeria.

2. The receiving US doctor will use the referring Nigerian doctor’s report as the basis for accepting the patient. The receiving US doctor will provide an estimated cost and duration of treatment for the proposed medical care in the US. This estimate will be as comprehensive as possible,  and will include all special treatments, surgical care and ancillary medical care.

3. If required for immigration purposes to enter the US, the receiving US doctor will facilitate obtaining a letter from the US hospital where services are planned to be provided, confirming that such services will be  provided to the prospective patient.

4. The patient should demonstrate evidence of sufficient funds to pay for the prospective medical treatment in the US.
